He said either wizard or bard, and Matt's a wizard, so he picked bard.

I'm a monk, I don't use weapons, I AM a weapon. So yeah, I'm going to be punching shit to death.

Fun fact: At level 12, a Monk's fists/feet/whatever are as strong as a Greatsword.

Does it count as proper lethal damage? Or nonlethal damage?

That's actually a class feature of the monk, our fists count as lethal damage (but they can be nonlethal if we want, at no attack penalty).

Better yet, at level 4, they count as magic weapons for the purpose of bypassing DR x/magic, and as Adamantine weapons even higher up.

Oh man, I keep noticing more abilities. Also at 12th level, I can imitate the Dimension Door spell once per day. NICE.

Oh, you meant that as ME XD

Yep. also, I eventually gain immunity to non-magical disease, then all poison. Also, Spell Resistance. And I can go ethereal at level 19. Oh man this'll be fun.

It'll take awhile, but yeah, Monks are fucking beast.

(Then again, so is everything else at high levels.)

Indeed, I can attest to paladins being beast. Especially if you make a more awesome choice of mount, like Dire Wolf.

Oh, Matt? I forgot to mention, you get one more starting known spell for each point of your intelligence modifier, so if your intelligence is 16 you get 3 more first level spells known. And you learn 2 new spells every level by default.

Wizards learn spells?

Or he can prepare two more? Or what? (I honestly don't know much about how wizards work in D&D.)

They gain 2 spells KNOWN every level. Spells used per day depends on the level and on their intelligence (for bonus spells).

However, they can learn any and all spells from another spellbook or scroll by copying them into his spellbook(s)

I thought that was the key difference between Sorcerers and Wizards?

That Sorcerers KNOW spells and have uses per day, while Wizards prepare spells and use them on a spell-by-spell basis...

I'll have to read about this.

That is correct. Wizards can know as many spells as they have room in their spellbook (and they can have multiple spellbooks), but have less Spells-per-day, and they have to prepare which spells they have available at the beginning of the day.

Sorcerers have a very specific number of spells they know, but can pick which ones they cast as they cast them. They also cast more spells per day.

So Wizards have more variety, while Sorcerers have more efficiency. Sorcerers are better battle mages while Wizards can be battle OR utility.

Oooh.

So:

Clerics/Druids/etc: Full list of [Class][Caster level] spells available every day, but less casting ability.

Wizards: Full list of spells to learn, and THEN limited to the spells they've learned to prepare. But more casting ability than clerics/druids.

Sorcerers: Full list of spells to learn, but limited number per level, no need to prepare, more casting ability.

Yes, and regarding knowledge of spells:

Divine caster (Druid/Cleric/Paladin/Ranger): Automatically know all spells of that class of the level they can cast.

Wizard: CAN know all spells he/she can cast, but does not know them all automatically.

Sorcerer: Can only know a specific number of spells as deemed by the table in chapter 3 of the player's handbook.

Oh, Bard follows the same rules as Sorcerer, but with its own 6-level list of spells.
